The Repair Years
Tiny dates are carved inside the rail whenever a board is mended. Maintenance is part of the bridge’s story.

From the direction of Moonwater Pond comes one low evening call, followed by all the quiet it creates.

The first autumn leaf to land on the bridge is pressed into the Book of Days by the Keeper of the Lanterns.

Every evening, just before dusk, the Bookkeeper walks from the House to light the bridge lantern by hand.
Every morning, the same walk is made in reverse. The flame is rested because daylight has taken over the work.
