A walk through the rows
Follow the lantern stakes.
The first path begins beside the wagon and bends toward the greenhouse. The pumpkins here are still uncarved, the lanterns are not yet needed before supper, and the air smells faintly of leaves and warm earth.
Walk slowly. The small striped pumpkins gather near the fence, while the tall orange ones prefer the open field. Halfway down the row, a bench waits beneath an old maple.
Every pumpkin has a place. Find yours.
